Life in Australia
If it’s adventure you are looking for, a year Down Under will certainly provide that in abundance: Exotic wildlife such as platypuses and kangaroos, vast deserts, the mysteries of Aboriginal culture, outstanding natural phenomena and exciting cities. You can scuba dive in turquoise waters, explore the Great Barrier Reef, skydive, surf or paraglide or simply immerse yourself in the buzz of cities such as Melbourne, Perth, Canberra and Sydney.
All that is Aussie
From its humble beginnings as a British convict colony, Australia has evolved into a vibrant nation. The influx of immigrants after World War II has coloured Australia’s culture and it is quite common to hear anything from Greek, to Lebanese, Vietnamese or Arabic spoken on the high street. Aussies are renowned for their laid-back lifestyle and obsession with sports and fitness.
Call the Land “Down Under” Home
Your host family will welcome you into their home, whether its near the vineyards outside of Melbourne, one of the beach suburbs of Perth or close to the beautiful Barrier Reef. Enjoy evenings at home grilling fresh seafood “on the barby”. Sample authentic cuisine such as crocodile tails, kangaroo steaks or Vegemite sandwiches. Get a kick out of playing and watching sports with your host family – Rugby, “Footy”, Aussie Rules and Cricket are popular. Or, since the seasons are opposite here, you might find yourself surfing in December.
